Fifth and Sixth Grade have been learning about the metric system, and also learning how to do precise measurements using rulers, triple beam balances, and graduated cylinders.
The Woodstock Elementary School STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) Innovation Lab and Makerspace is an exploratory learning space that strives to infuse the STEM disciplines into the broader curriculum. We have established a science, engineering and design learning lab in its own dedicated space, preparing our students today with the critical thinking, designing, engineering and problem solving skills they need to fill the jobs of tomorrow!

First Grade Models Light and Shadows
Students worked in pairs to create shadows that their classmates had to recreate. They used a block, a flashlight, black paper and chalk to create a model of their shadow. They used that model to challenge their classmates to use a flashlight to create the same shadow- with the same size, shape and placement.

Third Grade Ramp Challenge
Third grade was given a variety of ramp materials, and challenged to get a pingpong ball all from one end of the lab to the other.
