The Woodstock Elementary School STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) Lab and Makerspace is an exploratory learning space that strives to infuse the STEM disciplines into the broader curriculum. We have established a science, engineering and design learning lab in its own dedicated space, preparing our students today with the critical thinking, designing, engineering and problem solving skills they need to fill the jobs of tomorrow!
First graders are wrapping up their life science structure, function and information processing unit by studying biomimicry. Their lessons on Biomimicry focus on how humans look to the natural world to solve problems. In this lesson, they are testing how blubber helps to keep polar animals warm.
Fifth and Sixth Grades have been making catapults and trebuchets in STEM in coordination with their Social Studies topic of the middle ages. We learned the difference between catapults and trebuchets, and the physics of projectiles.
