The Woodstock Elementary School STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) Innovation Lab and Makerspace is an exploratory learning space that strives to infuse the STEM disciplines into the broader curriculum. We have established a science, engineering and design learning lab in its own dedicated space, preparing our students today with the critical thinking, designing, engineering and problem solving skills they need to fill the jobs of tomorrow!

Stix-N-Bitz Motorized Arm Coded with Scratch
In July, I attended a conference called Constructing Modern Knowledge, that focused on robotics, electronics and coding. Here is a video of my team's project which uses a Hummingbird micro-processor, a servo motor and a Scratch based coding program to run it.

Second Grade Experiments with Tiny Building Blocks
As part of our properties of matter studies, second grade counts out 100 units and begins to build with tiny building blocks. Their shapes and structures were different, but the amount of "matter" was the same - before and after. This is a foundation lesson that we will refer back to when we explore the idea of conservation of matter.

Woodstock Bridge Building Team Takes Second Place Again at the Vermont Technical College Popsicle Stick Bridge Competition

Our suspension bridge took a 256 lb load, and our solid truss took 159 lbs. We were surprised by the results. We predicted the opposite.
