The Woodstock Elementary School STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) Innovation Lab and Makerspace is an exploratory learning space that strives to infuse the STEM disciplines into the broader curriculum. We have established a science, engineering and design learning lab in its own dedicated space, preparing our students today with the critical thinking, designing, engineering and problem solving skills they need to fill the jobs of tomorrow!

Kindergarten Habitats
Kindergarten students built "habitats" out of natural materials for a chipmunk. They had to make sure that it had food, water, and shelter - key components of a habitat.

First Grade Studies Structures and Functions of Bird Beaks
First Grade students did "blind" experiments to determine which kind of bird beak was better for different kinds of food. They used chop sticks, tweezers, and clothes pins to represents beaks of different shapes and sizes. They charted their results, and wrote a conclusion.

Gear Systems in Fourth Grade
Using Gear Generator, and the Carvey, Fourth Grade was able to make wooden gear systems and learned how to calculate rotational ratios. Plus it was a lot of fun. Thanks to Lucie deLaBruere for the use of the Carvey!

Green Screen Nature Journals - 3rd Grade
Third Grade learned to use the greenscreen movie making skills to record their nature journal entries. They used photos that they took while writing their poems as the background of their movies.
